This thread was interesting reverberations if we consider impact versus 
significance. Given that many of those writers who've inspired 
groundbreaking archaeological research would, themselves, not have been 
considered *significant* within their disciplines (eg, the dismissal of 
continental philosophy within so many uk philosophy depts), might they 
claim impact? And what about archaeologists who have impacted on other 
disciplines but who, within archaeology, may be considered *insignificant*? 
That is, can anyone be *purely* marginal or significant?

Archaeologists might think about these questions with Bhabha, Bourdieu or 
Deleuze + Guattari but I guess other disciplines are thinking with other 
scholars? How central might archaeology's thinking be around the margins?
