Balliol College invites applications for an 8-hour Stipendiary Lectureship
in Latin Literature
commencing October 2010 for either one or two academic years (length of
tenure should have
been established by the time of appointment).

The lecturer will be asked to teach up to 8 hours of tutorials per week. The
College hopes to
appoint a Latinist who would be able to teach the Latin Literature of the
1st century B.C. paper for
Greats (Finals) and also undertake Latin literature and language teaching
for Classics Mods (Virgil’s
Aeneid, and Texts and Contexts: options including Petronius, Catullus,
Cicero): see University
Regulations at www.classics.ox.ac.uk for details. The lecturer should also
be able to teach either
or both of the Ovid or Latin Didactic Poetry papers for Greats. The lecturer
will be expected to
assist with the administration of Classics at Balliol, including
undergraduate admissions, and with
the pastoral care of students.

The annual stipend payable is currently £16,182. The lecturer will have
certain Senior Common
Room rights and the use of a teaching room in College.

Applications containing a CV, a statement of research and teaching
experience and the names of
two referees should be sent to the Academic Administrator, Balliol College,
Oxford, OX1 3BJ
([log in to unmask]), by Monday 19th April. Candidates
should ask their
referees to write directly to the Academic Administrator by that date; it
would be helpful if at least
one referee could comment on the candidate’s teaching experience and
abilities. It is expected
that interviews will be held in the week beginning 3rd. May (2nd Week of
term).

Prospective applicants may obtain further details by contacting Dr Rosalind
Thomas
([log in to unmask]), Dr Adrian Kelly
([log in to unmask]), or the Senior
Tutor ([log in to unmask]).
