This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Research Associate to join the School of Public Health at Imperial College London. The applicant will join a team of internationally recognised experts in Environmental Epidemiology and Biostatisics, working in the field of Environmental Statistics on an air pollution study, as part of the newly formed MRC-HPA Centre for Environment & Health http://www.environment-health.ac.uk/Links.aspx

The purpose of the project is to investigate the long-term effects of exposure to fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) in the pre-natal period and early infancy and sensitisation to aeroallergens, respiratory symptoms, doctor-diagnosed asthma and lung function of children through to adolescence. The research takes advantage of the wealth of existing information from ALSPAC, one of the largest and best characterised birth cohort studies in the world.

Some knowledge of Bayesian methods and GIS techniques is essential, as also experience of using modern statistical modelling techniques, especially Bayesian hierarchical models and multi-level modelling, and strong skills in data analysis.

The position will be supervised jointly by Dr John Molitor and Prof Paul Elliott and the post holder will also work closely with the other members of the Imperial College research team.
