Hi Pauline
With what you already have, you should be able to sign up to do an MPH at some institutions.  Another option for you to consider would be a PGDip/MSc in one of the health and safety management courses around the country.  You haven't indicated where you are.  Nottingham Trent used to offer a PGDip/MSc in the Management of Occupational Safety and Health.  If you have the self discipline and ability to work in isolation that distance learning requires, why don't you look at the very wide range of courses on offer at the Open University?

I would suggest that you contact one of the OH tutors and ask to go and have a chat with them, so that based upon what they learn about your interests and aspirations, they can advise you

Have a pleasant weekend

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Advice on further training

Can I pick your collective brains for advice please? I have been working in Occupation Health since 1987, initially in Further Education then Industry, Higher Education and for the last 10 years in the NHS. I did my OHNC at Institute of Advanced Nursing Education between 1988 -1990 and then a research module to obtain my Diploma in 1997. I also did 2 modules at level 3 around 1998/99 before being made redundant from that particular post therefore being unable to complete my degree. I am already on part 3 of the register with the qualifications I have.

As part of my appraisal I have been asked to look at training opportunities. I am not sure if there an option open to me to simply do the level 3 modules, or would I be best to undertake something that would give me a generic degree. It would appear the way forward is to have a degree qualification nowadays and I still have the potential to be working for at least another 20 years. Would I be better looking at something at a Masters level or would I need a degree before I could do that. I would imagine I would be outside the limits for APL to apply. Tried looking on University websites but found it confusing. Distance learning opportunities would be my best option

Any words of wisdom gratefully received, sorry for sending this on a Friday but only time I get to catch up a bit on the outstanding things in my in-tray. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Regards and have a nice weekend

Pauline
