Hi Vicky

the DH guidelines below don't address routine testing after vaccination and booster; it is this point which I need to get some clarity on...any ideas?

Hi Tracy

I would start with The DH guidelines entitled Health Clearance for tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.  New Healthcare Workers. 2007.  Should be downloadable from their website.

thanks Tracy

is there any document (DoH, NICE etc) with guidelines as to what is required....as always, it seems different hospitals require different things

thanks

Chloe

what I am referring to is:

The management

of health, safety

and welfare issues

for NHS staff

New edition, 2005

There is currently no routine requirement for the testing of healthcare workers other

than doctors for blood-borne viruses. However, if they think they have been exposed,

healthcare workers have a professional duty to seek medical advice on the need to be

tested for blood-borne viruses.

which states doctors have to have routine testing for BBV so what is routine???

Hi Chloe,

for EPP workers, we require evidence within 2 years (UK lab, Identified validated sample), of Hep B surface antigen, as well as evidence of completed course & antibody response (from whatever date).

For non-EPP, evidence of course of vaccine, response & booster (or date required)

Hi Chloe,

No.

Once you have had a full course you either have no immunity start again, partial immunity with immediate booster and a one off five year booster or full immunity with a one off five year booster.

Immunity determined by titre level. In NHS provided we see lab report/result from other Occ Health then that is it.

After these dates we only test if no result available and we need to update file.

Booster offered after a needlestick injury.

Hope this helps

Dear list

Please can those involved in Hep B vaccination advise with regard to their policy on checking Hep B status: after booster, do you require further proof of Hep B status and if so, how often.... both EPP staff and non EPP

many thanks
