Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the MOLEC XVIII meeting, to be held in Curia, Portugal, September 5-10, 2010.

The series of biennial MOLEC Meetings started in 1976, when the first Conference was held in Trento. Since that time the conference was held in Brandbjerg Hojskole (Denmark), Oxford (UK), Nijmegen (The Netherlands), Jerusalem (Israel), Aussois (France), Bernkastel-Kues (Germany), Prague (Chech Republic), Salamanca (Spain), Nyborg Strand (Denmark), Bristol (UK), Jerusalem (Israel), Istanbul (Turkey), Nunspeet (The Netherlands), Trento (Italy), St.Petersburg (Russia), and now comes to Curia (Portugal).

The European Conference on Dynamics of Molecular Systems focuses on the different aspects of atomic and molecular interactions, with emphasis on both experimental and theoretical studies of the dynamics of elastic, inelastic and reactive encounters between atoms, molecules, ions, clusters and surfaces. The meeting deals in particular with:

• Molecular collisions in different environments (plasmas, atmospheric/interstellar/combustion processes, gas-surface processes, biologically relevant systems, etc.)

• Fundamental problems and ab-initio calculations on molecular dynamics

• Photon-matter interactions: spectroscopy, photodissociation and photo-induced reactions including femtosecond dynamics.

• Interaction between ultra-cold molecules and atoms, processes in He droplets.

• Steric effects and vector correlations in reactive processes and in photodissociation.

The Conference format will include invited lectures, hot topics, and poster sessions (see website for the confirmed speakers). The participation of young researchers and students is particularly welcome. Some posters will be promoted to oral presentations upon recommendation of the Scientific Committee.

The Conference, sponsored by the University of Coimbra, will be held at Curia/Anadia. Situated in the heart of the Bairrada wine region and born as a result of the properties of its waters discovered by the Romans during their occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, Curia proposes you a wakening to the true senses of life. Go back in time to the nostalgic golden 20's and enjoy the "Belle Époque" and "Arte Nouveu" architecture, enjoy the gigantic trees, pure scented air, go for a walk in the beautiful gardens and leafy park of the Spa. Or, set for a walk through the picturesque vineyard paths. But, above all, feel the rare pleasure of living a sense of freedom and space where the only limits are the immensity of the green color from the trees and the infinite blue sky.

The day of arrival is September 5, with registration during the afternoon. The program starts with a dinner followed by an opening lecture by Professor John Murrell. It will finish on the 10th at midday, after a closure session.

Expecting many accompanying persons, the Local Organizing Committee plans to organize for them an excursion program which includes visits to the seaside and a visit along the wine roadmap. Curia has also a new and beautiful golf course. This is a  challenging nine hole, 34 par, executive golf course, with an area of around 20 acres and a track distance of 2407 meters (2632 yards).
