Dear All,

This Public Meeting in Scotland to question the IFNC bidders for central and northern Scotland is an opportunity to explore the extent of local participation proposed by these IFNC bids as Ofcom and DCMS extend  public service in the 'nations and regions' to 'nations, regions and localities;.

Subject: Independently Funded News Consortia Pilots - Public Meeting in Glasgow on 8 February

Dear Stakeholder

The IFNC Pilots Selection Panel will be visiting Glasgow on Monday 8 February and will be holding a public meeting with the two bidders for the Scottish pilot.  The two bidders are:

  • Scottish News Consortium (DC Thomson, Herald & Times Group, Johnston Press,Tinopolis)
  • Scottish News Network (stv, Bauer, ITN)

The public meeting will take place from 2-3pm at the Radisson Blu Hotel, 301 Argyle St, Glasgow G2 8DL.

Richard Hooper, Chair of the IFNC Selection Panel intends this meeting to be an opportunity for local people to have their say about local news on television, radio, local newspapers and the web.  He also wants local people to be able to question the bidders about their proposals to deliver a new innovative local and regional news service across multiple platforms in Scotland.

If you would like to attend the public meeting in Glasgow, it would be helpful if you could RSVP to: [log in to unmask] by 5pm on 5 February.  Please feel free to forward on this invitation to anyone else you think might be interested in attending.  The Panel is keen to canvas views from as many people as possible, so if you are not able to make this date and would like to feed in your comments about the IFNC pilot in Scotland or about the IFNC pilots more generally, then please send them to the same email address: [log in to unmask].

Further information about the IFNC Pilots and the Selection Panel is available on the DCMS website at: http://www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/broadcasting/6549.aspx .
