Having recently reviewed our own charges in comparison with other authorities, I discovered quite a number who also do this and was also a little surprised.
In contrast however, here in West Dunbartonshire we charge for the overdue letter, but we don’t charge a daily overdue rate (with the exception of DVDs, where
it works the other way around). Our first letters are sent after the item is one week overdue, with two follow-up letters sent before the replacement cost is charged for.
Regards,
Richard.

Hello,
Well, now someone has posted a message about fines (or fees !) the floodgates are open...
Can I ask the list if they've heard of libraries charging for overdue letters
in addition to the daily charges for late-returned items ? I joined a library yesterday that does exactly this, which was a shocker - in 35 years of using libraries, I've never heard of this.
And if you do charge for the letter, at what point does it go out – the day after the due date or later ?
