Hi
Just to have an idea of how other centres operate this
qualification, please can you let me know how many centres leave the delivery
of the tests with the Hair and Beauty dept, and how many timetable and
rinvigilate via the exams dept.
thanks
Stella

Hi Michelle – the attached may be of some help; this is a document
found somewhere in the depths of the C&G website, but I think I actually
received this by email from the CAS team at C&G when I was querying the EAA
rules.
Best wishes

HI Michelle
We are also running C & G Hair and Beauty gola tests – please
can you direct me to where it says tutors can invigilate etc – this would
really take the burden off my exams team if I can get the staff to invigilate
at least some of the sessions. We are feeling overwhelmed with hair and
beauty tests so far this year.

Hi Cath
The Hairdressing department make all the students sit the exams
at least twice (when necessary), they need to get a percentage of 70% or above
to pass. There are two types of upk test, mandatory (which start with a
7) and non-mandatory (which start with an 8). They must pass the
mandatory on-line, but the incorrect questions on both types of question are
orally tested with the tutors. Learners are also able to use their work
books for the non-mandatory tests. The tests make up part of the
units that are claimed once the learner has finished the award and are not
separately reported to City & Guilds. We make our students sit under
exam conditions for all tests as we are lucky enough to have a dedicated
on-line test suite, but it is not a requirement with C&G for the upk tests
and can be invigilated by tutors within the Hairdressing section. I know
that our Hairdressing team have also subscribed to smartscreen which is very
informative.
We have devised a test entry form for both types of upk question
which I am happy to share with you off list if you would like it.

Hi Michelle
The tutors want the students who have failed the gola underpinning
knowledge tests a couple of times to take a paper version, I didn’t think
they could do this as they are registered under 3008-52 for which all of the
tests are Gola. However they have downloaded paper tests from the assessment
handbook and want the students to do these. Can they do this and how will
we claim the results at the end of the year?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Cath

Hi Cath
We’re running this scheme this year and have been doing GOLA
tests for the old scheme for the last three years. What do you need to
know?
