It is interesting to note that when a counter signatory is required how often you need to supply your passport number, especially when it isn't for a passport renewal: SIA licences are the classic example!

Until I moved house and had to renew my UK driving licence I didn't realise that my personal details were shared/shareable between the DVLA and the passport office. I gave my permission for the picture and signature to be shared for the purposes of renewing the licence. There is no DPA issue here, simply a curiosity.

 

And that curiosity is over how much other data is shared, with or without consent, by government departments?
