Dear all,

Colleagues at Liverpool Uni Vet's School are currently conducting a systematic review of the literature relating to human-directed dog aggression. Their intention being to provide a robust review identifying the current evidence for the role of potential risk factors for aggressive dog-human interactions, with a view to informing on potential preventative strategies and identifying areas for future research. The project is funded by Defra.

The research team consists of an interdisciplinary group which includes a Prof. and Senior Lecturers in Epidemiology; a Research Associate in human-animal interactions with a background in animal behaviour and training; the head of Veterinary Education; and an MPhil Candidate who is a medical doctor by training with an interest in animal health and welfare.

In addition to the expertise within that group, they are in the process of establishing a panel of experts who they hope will provide feedback over the next couple of months on appropriate search terms, assistance with the identification of potential sources of unpublished data and the formation of a definition of aggression.

To begin with they intend to conduct the expert panel via email. Then, further along the systematic review process they hope to expand the panel of experts to enable further discussion of the findings and to identify potential areas of future research.

The group are currently seeking someone with a sociological disciplinary background and an interest/ expertise in gang culture* and dogs to join the panel (*whilst the project isn't looking directly at gang culture, owner behaviour and the social setting of human-dog interactions is an important aspect).

If you are interested in being a member of our panel, or are able to recommend someone who might be, please could you contact Jenny Newman at [log in to unmask] with a brief statement on your background/ relevant research expertise.

With thanks,
Alex.
