Call for Papers:
Geographies of children and young people: Asia-Pacific perspectives
Convenor: Tracey Skelton, National University of Singapore

This panel/ set of panels is designed as a space to bring together scholars working with children and young people within the geographies of the Asia-Pacific region. It is intentionally a broad sweep title to enable geographers and other social scientists to gather and share their work on a range of themes but focused within specific sites in Asia and the Pacific (both to be interpreted in their widest sense). Papers with theoretical and conceptual emphases along with those of a more empirical nature are equally welcomed.
Papers are sought which engage with at least one of the following themes:

* Theoretical and conceptual approaches for examining young lives in Asian and/or Pacific contexts
* Children and young people's mobilities (daily, rural-urban interchanges, city sites, transnationally)
* Children's and young people's encounters and (dis)engagements with difference and diversity (face-to-face, institutionally, virtually, through cultural practices)
* Children's and young people's coping strategies and adaptive tactics in the face of social, cultural, economic, political and/or environmental change and insecurity
* Resistance, resilience and reworking - young people as social agents in their communities and nations
* Methodological issues, tensions and complexities of working with young participants in different cultures and geographies

Please send abstracts, full affiliation and contact details of no more than 250 words to Tracey Skelton ([log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask]) by 1st April 2010.
