Hi Phil

The Byron range has a specific variant that is designed to take an external
input, primarily so that it could be wired into an existing door bell, but
that makes it great for our purposes. It also has a similar cost to the
device you mention.

Cheers

Subject: Switch-adapted attention callers for people with severe upper lim b
impairment who do not require a scanning-based EC system

I was wondering what attention-callers are being used by other centres. At
A.C.T. we have been using Friedland doorbells (at about £30 each) and these
have been adapted to accept 3.5mm mono jack plugs by the technicians who
work in our in-house EC service, so that they can accept switches. We have
done this for many years and have hundreds of these doorbells in people's
homes in the West Midlands.

Recently there have been some commercial marketing of other similar devices.
These tend to be significantly more expensive. This has led us to reconsider
our practice. I wonder what other services are doing with regard to this
issue?

If you want wireless then the Plantronics CS60 USB has worked well for
me. We have certainly had problems with the sound systems on some
laptops.
