An established statistical research organization seeks a bright and
ambitious individual to undertake one or more web-based data
collection projects on a freelance basis. The project involves the
development of software/scripts (perhaps most easily done in R) to
download information from a small number of web sites on a regular
basis and to extract relevant data to be stored for analysis. (See
for example the Wikipedia article on “scraping”.)
The job would ideally suit an undergraduate or PhD student with the
necessary skills and entrepreneurial ambition, though those in
employment with sufficient time and flexibility are also encouraged
to apply.
The bulk of the work will be at the start of the project setting up
the necessary systems, but it is anticipated that the ongoing time
commitment will be small. Remuneration will be between £5k and £10k
per year depending on the terms of the contract and the level of
service provided.
Expressions of interest with a brief CV (educational background,
current position and details of relevant experience) should be sent
ASAP to Sarah Stephens: [log in to unmask] [1].
