Hi Joseph

Don't forget to include heterophilic antibody interference which will lead on to unnecessary follow up and anxiety of some patients undergoing a tumour marker screen.

cheers

Trevor

Subject: tumour marker screens

I am preparing a talk entitled "benefits and risks of tumour markers measurements" and I would like to use as an example of request where the balance between benefits and harms is likely to bend towards harms the example of "tumour marker screen" where several markers are requested for patients with rather non-specific symptoms

does anyone know of published guidelines where experts recommended against such "tumour marker screens"?

many thanks in advance,
