In the Foucault book I am reading (Essential works Vol 2) Foucault says: And it is worth pointing out that formalism has very often been associated... with political situations and even political movements. He goes on to suggest looking more closely at Russian Formalism and the Russian revolution. (see pp 433-4) This could also be interesting considering Language poetry is also associated with the anti-Vietnam war era. Just passing this along for now. Also, F notes that formalism is a 20th Century thing.
