(That underline dash indicates italics in ascii text emails, coming from the convention of underlining with a typewriter to indicate itals in a ms. Now, if I can only remember how to do real itals with an IMB golfball... something stirs about changing golfballs...?) The article, Christopher Isherwood and his kind, does a fairly good practical intro and there is also Roland Barthes. Peter's comments gave me a kick along that I haven't given enough thought to fid and photography. To teach fid I would need to read more widely then my immediate practical concerns, of course, but Vidal's article and Isherwood's single man may be a good start, given the recent release of the film by that name. As for poetry, I have been thinking about the way there is a fid force from outside which acts on language poetry and lyric... thinking here of Ron Silliman and perhaps more interesting and twisted, Charles Bernstein's Girly man. best, Chris Jones. PS, while at my shelves I also dragged Vidal's _Palimpsest_ out feeling I would like to give it another read.
