I had a similar query a few years ago and posted at that time. The concensus (in the absence of research) appeared to be that the person with generally well controlled diabetes does not have a higher susceptibility to infection however once infection is present the person needs a longer absence as the infection affects BM control, and hyperglycaemia increases the bacteria count.
I even contacted the diabetes clinic at the local hospital and the specialist nurse there told me pretty much the same thing.
try ringing your local one for back up!
