Dear list, we are repeating the one day spirometry by Prof Paul Cullinan. We were so impressed with
his presentation last year, the feedback from delegates was 'outstanding!' The new date will be held
in the North West on 22nd April, anyone interested please contact me off list to secure your place.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] spriometry

Dear Jay and list

I have never done VC and it has never been missed.

I can recommenced the one day lung function workhop run by Prof Cullinan and the team to answer all
the other questions.

It really depends on why you are doing the spirometry, but if it is with regards to Occupational
Asthma, there seems to be less reliance on the FE1V% as being over a particular value, but in
comparison with the predicted values and/or the change over several years. However this is not
categorical as this can be relatively reduced if the FVC is very large and the FEV1 normal.
Also we were told that in the not too distance future we weill be looking at FEV1/FEV6 instead of
FEV1/FEV (that is the amount pushed out in 1 second over the smount pushed out in 6 seconds...
I know that is not particularly helpful iin answering your query.
I think in terms of deciding what spirimetry results need to be put in front of the OH Physician,
you need to ask your particular OH physician what they want to see, what their criteria are. They
are responsible for the supervision of the health surveilance programme...
Cheers
Diane
