A PhD position in Theoretical Physical Chemistry (ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy)
is available in a newly established junior research group (Juniorprofessur Theoretische Chemie)
at the Christian-Albrechts-Universitaet zu Kiel (Kiel University),
Germany.
The group is a part of the Institute for Physical Chemistry
(http://www.uni-kiel.de/phc/index_e.html) which allows a close
collaboration with experimentalists.

Our research concentrates on coherent processes in molecular and
biological systems,
their detection and control by ultrashort laser pulses.
For more details see www.theo.chemie.tu-muenchen.de/homepages/egorova
and our recent publications.

Among possible PhD projects are
* coherent energy transfer in photosynthesis explored by two-dimensional
* photon-echo spectroscopy
* time-resolved spectroscopy of fluorinated benzenes
* strong laser fields to control and drive coherent motion in molecules
* simulations of six-wave-mixing signals

Requirements:
* master or equivalent degree in Physics or Chemistry
* fluent spoken and written English
* programming skills

Highly appreciated:
* strong background in quantum mechanics
* fluent German
Note that the position involves teaching. If you do not speak German,
you are expected to learn the language well enough within the first
year.

Applicants are encouraged to submit an informal motivation letter and a
short CV in English or German as pdf files per email.
The starting date is March 15th, 2010 or later.
Those who wish to start no later than April 1st, 2010 must submit their
applictaions by February 2nd, 2010.
