Further to my post enquiring about what reading list strategies and
technologies colleagues are using I received the following replies. Mostly the
responses focussed on the technologies and most librarians did not feel they
have achieved a good solution.

Keele - Millennium reading list function too book focussed. Considered
Refworks but this also lacks the required functionality required. Recent
conclusions are that Sentient integrates well with Blackboard but has mixed
reviews. LORLS is free but requires more system support. Talis Aspire looks
good but expensive.

Dawson are working with Huddersfield University to exploit functionality in
dawsonera in the production of resources lists.

Swansea - current preference would be to use a reference managers like
RefWorks and Endnote for reading lists as they would prefer not to have yet
another place to manage reading lists.

School of Pharmacy - Uni of London - academic staff put reading lists on the
VLE (usually in different places). Staff have access to all modules and can
check lists. Library looking for a better solution

Professional body for actuaries - all students are distance learners. They have
portals for each subject which gather together all the resources a student
would need to study that Subject.

Other universities looking to find a better solution than they currently have
are:

Bournemouth
Bangor
Liverpool Hope
Central Lancashire
Roehampton
Southampton Solent

Information from Mark Bush (Talis Aspire):

Universities currently committed to implementing Aspire and could be
contacted are:
Plymouth
St. Andrews
Sussex
Manchester Uni
Bolton
Nottingham Trent

From Mark's experience in working with universities on Aspire development he
considers that the following have done good work on strategic thinking around
reading lists:
•	Nottingham Trent University
•	Sussex
•	St. Andrews
•	Cambridge University Library ( the Arcadia Project)

Good luck everyone!
