Advanced Teaching Skills with a focus on enhancing communication skills  (9.30-3.30)

This is a follow up course to the Introduction to Teaching 2 day course. It would be of particular benefit to staff who are involved in teaching/training on a regular basis and/or those who require a refresher course. The main focus of the day will be reflecting on our communication styles with a view to considering how “immediate” we are with our learners/students/library users.  Tutor immediacy is concerned with strategies for bridging any perceived gaps between tutors and students in the way we communicate – this could involve use of voice, the environment we work in and our non verbal communication. Participants will be expected to take part in a series of interactive exercises (including short talks/teaching sessions) to ensure that theory and practice can be integrated within the session. Applicants will be asked to complete a short self-assessment questionnaire prior to attending the course.
