Hi Mishael,

A very pertinent question! There is a mish-mash of services around, as you may already know. A list of current regional (ish) centres exists on the CM site:

http://www.communicationmatters.org.uk/Resources/AAC_Centres/aac_centres.html

It would probably be worth linking up with your other neighbouring local services and specialist services (GOSH or CharringX ?).

CM is also co-ordinating a number of work streams around this, including a meeting of AAC specialist services looking at standards for services and also recently, a research grant to (among other things) map existing services:

http://www.communicationmatters.org.uk/Research_Matters/Index/index.html

There is a mailing list for the services work at:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/aac-assessment-services-forum

As well as the CM-Forum (more general AAC stuff) at:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/cm-aac-forum

We (Barnsley and Sheffield Uni) are also trying to push things at a regional level up here, but haven't a successful plan yet!

Good luck, let us know your progress.

Cheers

Simon

Dear All

I am currently helping a Speech Therapist to put a case to the commissioner to fund communication aids for adults in our district who require this type of equipment. However, before we go banging our commissioner's door, I wanted to check how other SLT departments and professional colleagues provide this type of equipment to adults in their area.

Kind regards

Hi All

For those who remember the Forget-Me-Not clock from the ASTRID project, I have found this interesting digital alternative,

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/9481354/Philips-AJL308-7-Digital-Photoframe-With-Alarm-Clock-Radio/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0

It's available at less than half this price from CPC (no detailed product info on site though)

Cheers

Jeremy
