We are currently annotating Brazilian Sketches, in which Kipling uses the Arabic expression (or name) Abu Bijl.

Can anyone advise on whether this means 'The Father of Lightnings', or possibly 'Hooded Devil', as the context suggests ? Harbord (and we) are uncertain on the point.

We will be most grateful for any advice.

All good wishes, John R
