Subject: Legal admissibility and evidential weight of records produced on a tablet PC

Dear All

I need some expert opinion/guidance please so I can advise our people. There
are some records that we create which require a signature to athenticate
them. We have mobile workers, working out in the field using tablet PCs to
make notes of meetings etc. which become records. They sign the document
on the tablet with the stylus pen. The question I have is, would the
document's evidential weight be as good as any other electronically held
document? I'm really thinking about the questionability of the signature here
and that if the document has been kept adequately secure, the signature
would be as good as any pen and ink signature, or am I mistaken? Has anyone
any experience of submission of documents created in this way being used in
court proceedings?

Thanks

Kath
