Dear all,

NICE are urgently looking for a researcher, ideally with previous experience of
carrying out qualitative research and working with similar organisations, to
assist them in evaluating the development of quality standards. The project
involves completing around 20 semi-structured interviews with key staff in
January next year. More details below.

NICE has been commissioned by the Department of Health (DH) to manage the
pilot process of developing quality standards. This involves receiving
sequenced topics from the National Quality Board (NQB) and developing quality
standards in these areas. NICE work collaboratively with other organisations
and consult with individuals and stakeholder groups during field testing of the
quality standards. The pilot process will be carried out on four topics initially.

The Interim Process Guide sets out the processes involved in piloting and
managing the development of quality standards for the first year, until April
2010 (found
http://www.nice.org.uk/aboutnice/qualitystandards/qualitystandards.jsp?
domedia=1&mid=61B9F800-19B9-E0B5-D4F3DDD067C7B452) . The process is
designed to ensure that quality standards are developed in an open,
transparent and timely way, having identified and invited key individuals and
stakeholder organisations to support the development of quality standards.

The pilot process is to be evaluated during December 2009 and February 2010
and the outcomes considered alongside any consultation comments received
to ensure improvements are made to the process going forward in 2010 and
beyond. The aim is to review a range of insights into the programme to date
to capture any themes and learning to guide possible improvements.

Key stages of quality standard development have been identified from the
Interim Process Guide and will be used to guide evaluation involving key
personnel by the use of questionnaire and semi-structured telephone
interviews.

Research Assistant support is required to:
1) To work with the NICE Quality Standards team and advise on question
development.
2) To arrange and undertake 1 hour telephone interviews with 10-20 identified
key personnel (timescale 11th Jan- 15th Feb)
3) To provide ongoing analysis (in-depth transcription not required) and report
development (by 17th Feb)
4) To attend NICE Programme Board meeting.

A budget is available for this work and can be negotiated. A contract will also
be provided.
