As part of our regular End of Year Thankyou to all those who have
supported another successful Facilitated Online Learning Interactive
Opportunity (FOLIO) Programme during 2009, commissioned by SHALL (Strategic
Health Authority Library Leads), we are running an End
of Year Competition. The Competition is open to any of you eligible to
undertake a FOLIO course and all your colleagues (i.e. you work in a
library, whether NHS, academic, public, professional association or
charity, that is accessible to NHS staff) and the prize is a £ 25
Amazon voucher. Read On:
This year my personal correspondence with the Editor of one of the
major nursing journals around his forthcoming Editorial regarding the
use of titles to boost the impact of journal articles has led me to ask
for the following:
What is the funniest/most intriguing/most attention seeking journal
article title that you have encountered (or can identify)?
[For example I have been guilty of some poor titles in the past e.g.
"Another Fine MeSH" about MEDLINE indexing (is this a double pun?)
while Petticrew and Roberts cite as an example a gynaecological study
entitled "A funny thing happened on the way to the orifice: Women in
gynaecology textbooks"]
Your competition entry must be a genuine journal article title and be
accompanied by a full (i.e. verifiable) citation. All entries received
by 5pm on 31st December 2009 will be eligible.
I will compile and share a list of the most memorable entries. Send
your entry headed "EOY Competition" to [log in to unmask]
judge's decision is final.
BTW our next SHALL course FOLIO Designing and Delivering Information Skills Training
Courses (InfoSkills) starts on 1st February 2010. Details
will be available from http://cpdfolio.pbworks.com/
and the course will be publicised via these discussion lists.
Best wishes
Andrew Booth
