Dear All I'm struggling to to find a thesaurus term for a feature on the Northumberland coast, known locally as 'bark-pots' and wondered if anyone else has these, or something similar? Bark-pots comprised a square structure with a hearth and short chimney (stone or brick) and a large open metal tank above the hearth. They were like a big outdoor version of a wash house set-pot and were used to boil water and tannin-rich substance (originally oak bark, then cutch) to treat ropes and sails and were in common use along the coast until the 1950s-60s. Any suggestions gratefully received.
