The post is in the Geographic Information Group, the section of Scottish
Natural Heritage’s Information Systems & Services Unit responsible for the delivery
of GIS and Spatial Data to users across the organisation.

Geographic Information Officer

Starting salary £19,338,

Location: Inverness

You will undertake a range of GIS data capture work to help support and maintain SNH’s corporate spatial data holdings. You will also produce ad-hoc mapping to support Area Staff and Policy and Advice colleagues with casework, projects and for official publications. You will also carry out basic spatial data analysis tasks supporting casework and projects.

You must have previous working experience in a cartographic or wider GIS services role, together with good basic IT and data management skills. You will also have previous experience in the use of GIS applications. You must have a thorough understanding of mapping issues, together with knowledge of map scales, projections, cartographic design and presentation. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be working closely with internal customers and on occasion with external partners too.
