Hi Tony,

(Hope my answers aren't too predictable but):

A) sounds like this client could do with some more assessment - i.e.
with SLT and ideally a specialist AAC team (that said I'm not sure who
covers Dorset? Southampton is listed on the CM page [1]?)? This would
help define is AAC goals and maybe result in a rehab plan orientated
around improving his communication (that might involve AAC) In the short
term, it would be good to get some more information such as: How does he
communicate at the moment? When is he frustrated in his communication?
Are there any low-tech systems in place?

B) Given A- there are some good text to speech programmes around
designed for what it seems you describe, e.g. WindBag [1] by Sensory
Software.

Cheers

Simon

I know of a client who has had a bleed on the brain and is left with a
stroke. His family have been practicing with him using a standard key
board . He can use the key board fairly well but family were wondering
if this could be taken to the next stage , i.e. Speech. The family seem
to be struggling with any professional input on this , and I do not know
the full story .Question ;- Is there any guidance you can give . Family
would be prepared to fund privately if push comes to shove. Many thanks
and Seasons Greetings . Tony Lewis. SRE Dorset wheelchair service .Tel
