Dear colleagues,

 A Christmas poser....
If animals are covered in fur how do they make Vitamin D?
Could this explain why dogsand cats rarely live into their 20s?
Seriously though, I have read that they synthesise Vit D in their fur (which is absorbed when they are groomed?) but if this is true how come humans don't synthesise Vit D in hair if we are descended from the apes?
