Dear IFRTT Forum subscriber,

dark gray, moist, chilly – not much of a morning welcome for your working day. Truck business
is still on low gear and I am still on a four day working week, diversification needed.

Swedish public television has started to show the John Adams, one of the US founding fathers
and second president, series. Excellently done, although sometimes on the romantic side in my
taste, as the initial sequence of the lone rider in the winter snow (and was the “Guilliotine”
decapitating technology really known to the 1770 Bostonians?).

The series is based on a book by David McCollough. I strongly recommend his book “The Path
Between the Seas” on the construction of the Panama canal: the struggle of de Lesseps and the
French, the gun-boat diplomacy of Theodore Roosevelt, the search for the root cause of the fatal
diseases, the never ending widening of the Culebra cut and the designing of the Gatun locks.
Someday, well, I will pass on water.

The organisational preparation of the HVTT11 conference in Melbourne, March 14 – 17 2010,
is intense. A full programme of the technical and plenary sessions will be available in December.
The organisational and scientific committee leaderships are in continuous correspondence. It is
looking really good, this will be a great experience, a global event.

Keep in touch with the extensive website www.hvttconference.com<http://www.hvttconference.com/> .

Have a look at the “news page” and the excellent coverage by the Australian professional
magazine Prime Mover, read the interview of Les Bruzsa of Queensland Transport, titled
“Extending the Envelope”.

And not the least, note the attractive conference fees for early birds, presenters and students
on the registration page.

Register!

And drive safely,
Anders Lundstrom, IFRTT president
