Subject: Bibliotherapy

Hi all,
I am working in a small specialist library which serves staff working in
a hospice, day care, community as well as nursing home. I am enquiring
as whether anyone has experience of being involved in bibliotherapy.
There are many definitions as regards what this could mean but I am
looking at it from the perspective of prescribing books to individuals
who could be for example attending bereavement counseling.

I was wondering how this could be administered from the Library
perspective in terms i.e. loan period, number of books on loan and what
other involvement the Librarian would have in this process such as book
selection and prescription.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has been involved in evaluating
bibliotherapy and how it might be done?

I'd appreciate any ideas, thoughts, feedback on this topic.

Kind Regards,
Joanne
