Prospects (The National Autistic Society) in London requires a: Student Support Worker for students in HE and FE with Asperger Syndrome Peripatetic work: client meetings in universities in and around London, with regular supervision and administrative meetings in Islington (London N1). Prospects Student Support is a service tailored to the individual needs of higher and further education students with autism and Asperger Syndrome to provide the support they need to help them through college or university. Most students encounter challenges when entering a new academic and social environment - managing their workload and organising their time. Students with Asperger Syndrome can find these situations particularly difficult, and often appreciate individual mentoring support to help things run smoothly, so that they are able to realise their potential. As a Student Support Worker you will be responsible for providing specialist mentoring support for students at various educational institutes in and around London. You will provide support, advice and guidance in one-on-one sessions to facilitate the development of confidence and skills necessary to move successfully through their course. Students with Asperger syndrome find it difficult to read the signals that most people take for granted, and can find it hard to communicate and interact with others. However with the right training, support and encouragement, most of our clients are able to move into employment; and that's where you come in. Prospects is the NAS's specialist employment service, working with people with autism and Asperger syndrome to prepare them for the world of work and to find them the jobs and work placements that they want - and, for students with an ASD in higher education, you'll be providing non-academic support to enable them to concentrate on their studies. You'll be providing non-academic support to students in higher education and will therefore need to be confident, motivated and resourceful. You'll have excellent communication skills and will be able to prioritise your work to meet the needs of the clients. You'll be joining the Prospects team, which is well established, highly motivated, and completely committed to the outcomes we facilitate for our clients. This is a 'zero-hours' contract, which is a normal contract of employment with continuity of employment and entitlement to annual leave and sickness leave, but where there are no normal or guaranteed hours. This means in practice that you'll be paid for the hours you work (including agreed administrative hours, and agreed time spent providing email and phone support to clients), which will vary by agreement.
