Thanks to everyone for updating me on this topic. In fact I also later found that my Coot installation (as well as pymol) has a Zalman stereo option under stereo. In fact what I was wondering if I need any special driver for the Zalman monitor under linux. 

Thanks Paul, for your tweaking suggestions to make things better. I would definitely try them once I get my monitor.

Anyway, once my monitor arrives I might have more questions to ask.
