Yes we use that same approach at http://online.tvu.ac.uk/
Our image is 1600 x 120
So far I’ve only come across one
person in the university with a monitor so wide that the image scrolls horizontally!

To get a full screen
image you need to upload a transparent image as the banner 230p x 40p
Then upload your
background image approx 1500p x 100p
One issue with this is
that when you resize the browser (making it smaller) the Home, Help, Logout, Icons
can be ‘lost’ on the image behind.
Have a look at http://blackboard.smu.ac.uk we have used
this method for a full screen image at the top. The SMU banner at the top is
1400p x 100p

Subject: Banners in BB8 query
Hi
Folks:
We’re moving towards Branding in BBAS Release 8.
A couple of questions about banners –
What
are the full screen-width banner limits (width x height) in pixels?
Is it possible to have a banner running right across the top of the page &
how is this done?
Can’t
find any of this info in the Admin manual, so help please!
ta
Best
wishes
Terry
