Great Mystics Address the Contemporary World

Saturday 6th March 2010

This one-day symposium considers the meaning of mysticism in the Christian tradition in the past and its appropriation and reception in the modern world.

The aim of the symposium is to address the main currents in medieval mysticism, early modern mysticism, including mystical texts of the 16th and 17th centuries, primarily Spanish and French, but also German and English (Recusant Catholics, Anglicans and Puritans) and assess if and how these religious works resonate in contemporary society. (see Symposium Programme)

In addition to the six main speakers there is a roundtable discussion at the end where all six speakers will attempt to summarize the main themes that have arisen during the conference. Furthermore, the roundtable session also provides a question and answer period in which the audience has the opportunity to engage with the speakers and the topics under discussion.

Cost (including lunch and coffee): £25 (when registering before 1 February 2010).

Reduced student rates are available.
