Dear all,

A couple of years ago Kerry Harris and I put out a plea for data relating to European fallow deer (Dama dama dama) from all periods and places.

Many of you provided information and references and the searchable database that we complied is almost complete - it will be launched as an on-line resource in the next couple of months. It is like ABMAP but for fallow deer and you are also able to search for data other than metrics - e.g. body part patterns, isotopic data, AMS dating evidence etc.

I have just been playing with some of the metric data and there seem to be some very interesting variations in the size and shape of bones from different periods and geographical areas.

It would be great to have this database as comprehensive as possible so, if you happen to have any fallow deer data that you are willing to have made available (fully referenced!) on this database, do please send it to me and I'll incorporate it.

thanks in advance and all the best,

Naomi

Dear Clemens,

This may not be relevent to your studies, but do you know about 18th century glass bird-feeders, which were clearly intended for caged household birds. You can find more information in

Vince, A. G and Egan, G. 1981 The Contents of  Late 18th Century Pit at Crosswall, City of London. Transactions of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society 32, 159-182

All the best
