In the current MAHARAJAS exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum there is a small painting of Maharajah Man Singh "playing polo with his women" - all of whom are Indian women wearing Indian women's attire. Regrettably, I failed to write down any further particulars of the painting (my pencil point broke); and I had already deleted the name of the original enquiry before I saw the picture. George Engle
