Hi List,

.I would appreciate some guidance on this scenario:

A manager finds an employee under the influence of alcohol. Some of the employee’s tasks are safety critical. What should the manager do? What can they do? What is within the legal framework? Without the use of a breathalyzer how can the manager gather enough ( measurable)evidence to support their decision to bar the employee from carrying out their job?

I am aware that this is a management issue; however in devising the local Alcohol policy OH’s advice is being sought. Is there anyone who is willing to share to their Alcohol policy that covers this aspect?

Thank you

N
