Hi Paul

Would there be any possibility of you sharing your PGD?

Thanks Anna

Hi Tracy,

my understanding is that the decision to add high risk patients was a
last minute one and your organisation will have to decide about the
allocation of vaccine to patients and staff. At my own Trust we were
worried that our initial delivery of vaccine was going to be too small
to split between staff and patients but we have been reassured we are
receiving a higher number of vaccines ion the first delivery than
originally thought.

The PGD was causing a headache as my Trust is keen to have a locally
designed document. I duly write one for pandemrix and it has already
been approved. This has allowed me to train the vaccinating team.

My Trust has been very supportive and has paid for a team of vaccinators
and administrators for a 6 week programme. Unfortunately we have
slightly struggled because of the scarcity of definitive information
from the Department of Health but everything is now falling into place
for us to commence our programme on Thursday and Friday this week.

Good luck

Paul

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Swine Flu vaccination frontline staff

I am slightly confused, even after all the planning and meetings
involved in the distribution of the swine flu vaccine to all frontline
staff, a query has arisen relating to high risk in-patients in hospital.

We are debating with our head of clinical services, who wants the
decision on who to vaccinate first between staff and patients to be
taken by the Trust.

My understanding was that the first delivery of vaccine to Acute Trusts
was for frontline staff, and the second wave of delivery (waves again!)
would be allocated for patients. There is also some confusion about
whether the acute Trusts or PCT's should be vaccinating patients
(arghh).

Also the Patient Group Directive is causing some hoo har (very
professional terminology). My understanding was the Dept of Health was
sending the PGD with the vaccine tomorrow, and at the workshop on
Thursday, the advice was the PGC would not need to be signed off by the
powers that be in each Trust, as it is exceptional circumstances, and
the DoH would sign it off. Each ward based vaccinator would then sign
their PGD.

I fnayone agress with this, or has any other information, please let me
know. I have draft information, but nothing definitive.

Many thanks,
