The Participation Workers' Network for Wales
PWNW E-Briefing: October 2009
The PWNW (Participation Workers’ Network for Wales) is a FREE service for workers and organisations that are interested in or actively promoting participation in their work with children and young people. The network is currently funded by the European Social Fund and is part of the Reach the Heights Initiative.

REMINDER: The PWNW consultation on the network is running for 1 more week and closes on 23rd October 2009. The consultation seeks the opinions of members and users on the current website and on the future development that will begin in the coming months. Following the end of the consultation we’ll be publishing a report on the outcomes of the research and potential steps forward for the network. You can read more about the consultation on the PWNW site and complete the consultation here.

We are also able to do some direct work with children and young people in local authorities covered by the European Social Fund, and are looking for membership organisations to work with in the future. Limited funding is available for the different activities. More details will appear on the PWNW website in the coming weeks, and in the December e-briefing.

Since the August 2009 E-Briefing, the following organisations have become members of the PWNW:

The deadline for the next PWNW e-briefing is Friday 28th November.

2) Participation Unit Updates

The Participation Unit continues to work with the Participation Consortium and its Sub Groups to move forward work in several strategic areas (see updates below). Throughout September the Participation Unit has been working in collaboration with the Community Fundraising Team on the ‘2009 Roadshow’. This year the Roadshow visited Further Education Colleges in Llanelli, Neath Port Talbot, Wrexham, Cross Keys and two youth volunteering fairs in Pembrokeshire and Aberystwyth. The work has been to recruit young people to set up fundraising and campaign groups to support our work to bring about dramatic change for children across the world, and in Wales. During September, the Unit met over 700 young people who were interested to hear about the work of Save the Children. Volunteer fundraisers are a vital part of our work to make life better for millions of children worldwide. The Volunteer network has more than 20,000 volunteers who fundraise, campaign, volunteer in a shop or work on specialist assignments with us. Together they raise more than £11 million every year.
