Postdoctoral Position in Experimental AMO Physics

Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory is inviting applications for
two Postdoctoral Research Scientist positions in Experimental Atomic and
Molecular Physics. The successful candidates will join the group headed
by Senior Research Scientist Dr. Daniel Wolf Savin, and will participate
in designing, building, and performing experiments utilizing a novel
merged beams apparatus to study the interstellar chemical reactions
leading to the cosmic origins of organic chemistry.

Laboratory skills required for this position include working with fast
ion beams, ion optics, ultra-high vacuum techniques, infrared lasers,
apparatus design and construction, and single particle detection for
ions. Computer skills required include LabView, Autodesk Inventor,
SIMION, Mathematics or similar, Windows, and Linux. Applicants must have
a Ph.D in Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or related field. A
strong background in at least some of the areas listed above, a proven
research ability, evidence of future research potential, and the ability
to work both independently and cooperatively with others, and
demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

The appointment is initially for one year, with the possibility of
renewal for up to two additional years; this is contingent upon the
availability of funds and mutual satisfaction. Review of Applications
