Welcome to the FIG e-Newsletter, which brings you latest information about FIG and its activities. The information referred here is in full length available on the FIG web site. Thus the e-Newsletter is produced to inform you what has happened recently and what interesting things are going to take place in the near future. The FIG e-Newsletter is circulated monthly by e-mail. The referred articles are in English and written in a way that you are able to extract them to your national newsletters or circulate to your members and networks.

 

Article of the Month – October 2009

 

On the FIG web site we publish each month a paper called the Article of the Month. This is a high-level paper focusing on interesting topics to all surveyors. It can be picked up from an FIG conference or another event. The Article of the Month in October 2009 is written by Dr. Isaac Boateng from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. He is also the Vice Chair of Administration of FIG Commission 8. His paper "Spatial Planning and Climate Change Adaption in Coastal Regions: The Case of Vietnam" His paper has been prepared for presentation at the 7th FIG Regional Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, 19-22 October 2009. 7th FIG Regional Conference - Spatial Data Serving People - Land Governance and the Environment - Building the Capacity, Hanoi, Vietnam, 19-22 October 2009

7th FIG Regional Conference - Spatial Data Serving People - Land Governance and the Environment - Building the Capacity will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, 19-22 October 2009. The key topics will be in the areas of land administration and environmental management. The conference will include a two-day Regional Consultation Meeting on the “FAO Voluntary Guidelines for responsible governance of tenure of land and other natural resources” that is organised jointly with FAO Land Tenure and Management Unit (NRLA). The conference will further include a special workshop on Asia Pacific Reference Frame organised jointly with PCGIAP and IAG. The organisers expect closer to 400 participants from about 60 countries to attend. The technical programme includes almost 200 presentations in about 50 sessions and workshops and workshops. Registration fee 350 EUR for full delegates includes lunches, dinners and technical tour to Ha Long Bay, a famous natural heritage site and geological reserve in Vietnam.

Call for nominations - Election of FIG President for 2011-2014, 2 Vice Presidents, Chairs of all FIG Commissions, and selection of the venue for the FIG Congress 2014

At its meeting in Sydney, Australia 11-16 April 2010 the FIG General Assembly will elect the FIG President, 2 Vice Presidents, Chair of each of the 10 Commissions for 2011-2014, and select the venue for the FIG Congress 2014. The FIG Council has announced the call for nominations for these elections. Please read more in the call for nominations letter. President Stig Enemark attends the Norwegian Annual Conference 2009 - Son, Akershus, Norway, 24-25 September 2009

FIG President Stig Enemark attended the Annual Conference “Areal og Ejendom” (Land and Property 2009) in Son in Akershus, Norway 24-25 September 2009. This conference was at the same time the General Assembly of NJKF (profession group in TEKNA), which is the FIG member in Norway (together with GeoForum Norway they form the FIG Norway). About 100 participants attended the conference.

INTERGEO 2009 leads the way out from the economic crisis – FIG 2010 promotion well received at the leading geo exhibition - Karlsruhe, Germany, 22-24 September 2009

INTERGEO 2009 exceeded the expectations of the organisers attracting over 16,000 visitors including a rise in the proportion of international visitors to a total of 22 per cent, and 1,450 congress participants. The congress and the trade fair did far more than the expectations of DVW. According to comments from the exhibitors the sales and business contacts were in increase compared to last year’s show.

FIG attends IAG 2009  ”Geodesy for Planet Earth” - Buenos Aires, Argentina, 31 August – 4 September 2009

The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) organised the “Geodesy for Planet Earth” conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the end of August. FIG was invited and represented by Mikael Lilje, Chair Elect of Commission 5 (Sweden) and Rob Sarib, Vice Chair of Administration (Australia). This scientific symposium is a biannual IAG event and attracted approximately 500 delegates from 65 different countries. There were 500 technical / scientific papers submitted and 280 of them were delivered as oral presentations. The technical program was run in two parallel sessions with numerous business meetings held in the evenings outside the ordinary technical program.
