Historically, a geologist conducting fieldwork was only able to search
for datasets relevant to their study sites after downloading data from
their mobile devices into a computer back at their laboratories.

The SPACER project aims to develop a demonstrator prototype that will enable mobile phones with built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) devices to query repositories supporting standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) . The software is being developed for the Google Android platform.

The project is managed by the Centre for Geospatial Science at the University of Nottingham and funded by the JISC through the Rapid Innovation call of March 2009.

Visit the project website and blog for videos, documentation and open source code.
