BNP membership list
I think the judge in the prosecution of the original leaker (if that is the right word) expressed his dissatisfaction at the level of punishment he was able to levy on the culprit. It is easy for people to turn a blind eye to the underlying data protection issue because the BNP were involved. I agree that if it was one of the major parties, or the National Trust, there would have been an national outcry. Whatever one's opinion of the BNP, this list should not continue to be circulated. Whatever else, who can vouch for its accuracy?

Isn't it strange how we do not worry so much when it is a list of alleged fascists that has been released.

Ignoring completely the valid points that you make, Renzo, since I am biased against fascists, what interests me is the lack of hue and cry, the lack of list comment.

Had this been any of the three major parties I think we would have heard far more form everyone here and the furore out "there" would be immense.

Whatever people may feel about this organisation, this would seem to be rather a worrying breach of fair processing rules relating to sensitive personal data.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/oct/20/bnp-membership-list-wikileaks

Of course "wikileak" is not an organisation in the ordinary sense and so its hard to see how they could be a data controller.  So who is the data controller here?

And even if "wikileak" was a data controller, I can only imagine that it would not be "established" in the EU - and so outside EU rules.
