I haven't yet seen the CLR, but note from the website that, yes, it's funded
in part or in whole (?) by a certain East Anglian university.  That said,
the mission statement, such as it is, seems to indicate that the journal
will in future issues look beyond the fens.  Based on the contents page, I'd
say issue one looks pretty interesting and various, more so than the
Cambridge label might lead some to assume.

As for TLS, well, it's simply depressing and stupid, but all too typical -
the smug anti-intellectualism and clubby disdain sounds precisely the note
that the establishment likes to strike.  And I'm not sure the free publicity
makes up for the implied message: yes, don't worry, you can all go back to
sleep, nothing of interest here....
