The British Library Conference Centre
The British Library Preservation Advisory Centre is
the new name for the National Preservation Office. The Centre continues to
provide and support the services offered by the NPO including the Preservation
Assessment Survey.
Why carry out a Preservation Assessment
Survey?
· Gain a snapshot of the preservation
needs of your collection including storage, environment, handling, security, and
disaster control measures
· Receive an objective report
featuring statistical evidence of need (supports funding applications and
setting of strategic priorities)
· Identify risks to your
collections and see which areas can be improved for greatest benefit
·

What does the workshop cover?
Designed for library and archive staff (no previous
knowledge of preservation is required), the workshop introduces the PAS survey
methodology, explains the benefits of carrying out a survey, provides options
for carrying out the survey and includes a practical session allowing attendees
to plan, measure, and compile survey data. The PAS database will be
demonstrated.
Workshop fee: £55.00 per person + VAT
(including lunch)
The NPO's Preservation Assessment Survey tool (PAS)
has been used by over 200 libraries and archives in the UK and Ireland since its
launch in 2001. Participants have successfully used the results to support
funding bids and to inform internal planning and budgeting for preservation. To
find out more, visit http://www.bl.uk/npo/paslib.html . The report, ’Knowing the need: a national assessment of
preservation need in libraries and archives’ was short listed for the
Collections Care Award at the Conservation Awards 2007. One judge described the
survey as "fantastic value for money, a springboard for action and the
place where everyone should start”. More details can be found on our
website at http://www.bl.uk/npo/conservationawards.html.
