Aloha,

For all of us non-specialists in British and European archeology,
Environmental Graffitti provides a useful article that summarizes
the archeology and some important burials of the Stonehenge
complex. With many photos and grafiks.

Among other things, the article is a useful reminder that Stonehenge
has a long history as a site for astronomical observations, rituals,
and funereal memorials. The Stonehenge that we see is what remains
of the end of all this history.

In addition, the article tweaked me about the Beaker culture, which may
have played a supervisory or ideological management role in some of the
deign and construction of Stonehenge.

Plus, it reminded me that by the time that Celtic immigrants arrived in
England, Stonehenge's use as an operating ceremonial center had
essentially ended.
