Please find attached the first call for papers for the International Congress on Archaeological Sciences in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East (ASEMNE), to be held in Cyprus 29th April – 1st May 2010. Papers on all aspects of research on natural and material science applications to archaeology and cultural heritage in Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East are welcome.

International Congress

on Archaeological Sciences in

the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East (ASEMNE)

The Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC; http://starc.cyi.ac.cy/) of the Cyprus Institute (http://www.cyi.ac.cy/) is pleased to announce an open call for papers for the International Congress on Archaeological Sciences in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East (ASEMNE). This international congress aims to highlight recent advances in natural and material science applications to archaeology and cultural heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East, and to provide an international academic forum, hitherto not available, for dissemination of results of current research in these fields in the region. The congress is addressed to the international scientific community of archaeologists, archaeological scientists, and researchers applying natural and material sciences to archaeology and cultural heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East.

Congress topics: Papers (podium or poster presentations) on all aspects of research on natural and material science applications to archaeology and cultural heritage in Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East are welcome. Problem oriented, comparative studies, as well as papers addressing advances, problems and potential on regional and local scales are also called for. The geographical scope of the workshop is inclusive, encompassing the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. The chronological scope ranges from the earliest prehistory to medieval and historical periods.

Thematic sessions

In addition to an open call for papers, the organisers are pleased to announce an open call for thematic sessions (please see session abstract submission form). The following thematic sessions have been proposed, and the congress organisers look forward to receiving further session abstracts in other fields:

 

 

Languages: The languages of the congress are English (preferably), French, German, and Italian. The delegates are encouraged to deliver their communications in English.
